sacroiliitis is the case that they gave me

Ok I just got back from my general practitioner's
all vitals weere normal.
I have a pretty serious stomach ache from that milk in my iced mocha yesterday
/shake fist in air at barista who got order wrong/
The results of my MRI are as follow:
unilateral left-sided sacroiliitis.
Marrow edema in the ilium and to a lesser extent the sacrum on both sides pf the entire joint
Mild relative widening of the left sacroiliac secondary to cortical erosive change
a trace amount of soft tissue edema is anterior to the joint.
no formed fluid collections are shown. Right SI joint entirely normal
also narrowing and dessication of the lumbosacral junction disc with a small posterior noncritical bulge. Marrow in L5 is normal, not internal pelvic soft tissue abnormalities.

The impression of the radiologist:
unilateral left sided sacroiliitis. Important differential would be septic arthropathy.
other possibilities
  • osteoarthritis as sequelae of trauma
  • manifestation of spondyloarthropathy (less likely)
    • Reiter's
    • psoriatic disease
Robert C. Sheley MD signed

So I left a urine sample to ensure I don't have chlamydia
I am going to take a stool sample and leave that with them for culture to rule out enterococcus and I think they will be looking for other parasites that might lead to a post infection single joint symptomology

My doctor thinks it is likely a case of reactive arthritis, or a single joint arthritis after an infection. If I had an infection back in april or may, I don't remember anything severe except being sick with diarrhea for one day.

So I will get those results, but even if it is some infection I had months ago, the results may show up negative (hopefully will) and most cases of reactive arthritis clear up in a few weeks to 6 months.

Episode IV a new HIP

I had a good day. I woke up and got all my house mess in order, and felt good.
I actually rode my bike to the chiropractor
He said it's time to move into the pain, talk to Josh about training again.
I am excited to be able to get back into action
Last night I did the exercises: small pushups, tricep curls, and dumbell curls
These were all modified and done with small weight.
I also did the glute marching
I have done a lot of press ups and cat camel
I accidentally drank some milk tonight when barista got my order wrong, I think my body is pretty sensitive, It occurred to me and I went back and got the right drink, but some damage was done.
I will see how this plays out.
I just did the more exercises
-10 pressups
-10 cat camel
-4 sets of standing quad stretch for 30 sec
-2 sets of clamshell
-2 sets of supine hip extension

I also just tried to stretch appropriately
My goal is to get more sun and take more calcium
tomorrow I will do the modified weights again, that are supposed to build ligament strength.

Red is still the hipist guy

Ok so My hip is getting better, but it is happening slowly.
I went to legacy and got and MRI on Friday the 29th, and a hip xray.
My doc's joffice called and confirmed sacroilliac inflammation.
I went to another appointment at providence PT and got some exercises
"Clamshell, reps of 10 up to three sets
glute marching while activating transverse abdominous
I am still ordered to do press ups or back extensions.
Have had some pain over the weekend
I am still doing cat camel as ordered by Dr.A

I am going into my doc's office on tuesday. I researched how to exercise to increase ligament strength
 Short range weight lifting

  • bench press
  • squat
  •  lying triceps extension
  •  leg press
  • dumbbell curl
I am going to wait and integrate the squat and leg press later, maybe, if approved.

The site suggests moving the weight 4 inches and then returning to the starting position. Each week, increase the movement by 4 inches. When you have reached a full range of motion, increase the weight by a 2 to 3 pounds each week.

Eat a diet rich in calcium. Include yogurt, milk, edamame, spinach, bok choy, collard greens and calcium fortified cereal in your diet.
I
Calcium supplement is on the shopping list, we have kale I will continue to eat. I will drink more almond milk.
As the winter comes I will turn to D supplements as well as Ca.

I did the workout with weights subbing pushups for bench press.
I also did transversus a. engaged glut marching
now I will stretch and go to bed.

The hip-opotmous

catching up since wednesday the 21st of august.
I received a massage from Clay and went to the chiropracter. I went to the chiro again thursday. I went camping on friday to cape lookout. I continued to take NSAIDs and do up-dog stretches as well as back extensions. I did get some serious neck cramps and spasms on the drive.
I walked a fair amount on the beach. I found hard sand was easier to manage. The walking didn't seem to aggrivate my hip, actually I found that keeping my gait as normal as possible I could reduce symptoms.
I got a short sitting massage from D (LMT friend).
The next week I took tylenol and did the updog stretches as well as cat camel multiple times every day.
My hip is getting better though slowly. I did get an MRI on thursday the 29th. They also took another x-ray.
opefully tomorrow I will be able to consult with my GP about what these show.
camped at lake detroit and hiked a lot. My legs are sore, but my hip seems to be in the same shape as it was when I left. Sleeping on a camping mat seems to be less aggrevating than sleeping on my matress. I did take my tylenol and do the up-dog and cat/camel stretches then while camping too.
I still have some pain when rolling over from a lying position, but it is not impossible.
I find that my gate is not normal, but is much improved from where it was a month ago.
I feel like I could get back to doing some work, but am a little hesitent that I might reinjure. So I will keep stretching and avoid heavy lifting.
Thats what I got for today, labor day sept 2

Still hip

So yesterday I dealt with a lot of diffrent stuff, but as far as the hip goes:
I woke up and my body was tingly, like after accupuncture, I felt like it was working to actively heal itself. As if I had not inhibited my natural healing process and it could now proceed to fix all the damage. Maybe hopeful thinking, but it was nice.
As I got out of bed similar pains and weakness gave me some difficulty, but in comaprison to other days, this was a good day.
I got a massage (no crazy grinding when Clay supported a knee flex from prone, as happened last week.) He said it was more stable, and hopefully was in the right orientation. He focused on all the muscles that cross the hips. He released my right psoas quite a bit, the left he said released more than most people's but not as much as the right.
I rushed out right after the massage, which clay extended graciously, to the chiropractor.
Dr. A said that things were moving in the right direction. He said that the pain was centralizing well and that I should try to walk normally instead of the limp, which is a pain avoidance behavior.  He said to walk into the pain and it will disappear. The adjustments went well, there was little pain with them.
I have been reducing the NSAIDS, I took 400 mg IBU at lunch yesterday and 650 tylanol after dinner.
I have been focusing on walking with a normal gate.
Today I am going to get a lot of school prep stuff done, but also try to work up a sweat with the i-rehab exercises and then go see Dr. A again around 4 pm.

hip stuff

So after the Chiropractor yesterday I layed down on my back for a while.
This was a mistake, I had a lot of pain and trouble getting out of bed for dinner.
I have been continuing the back extension stretches and press-ups multiple times a day as suggested by the providence physical therapist.
I took 800 miligrams of ibuprofen 2 times yesterday, not 3
I am going get into the acupuncturist today and I will see Dr. A again.
I have a massage scheduled for tomorrow.
I did get a call from my doctor's office: they did not know that I had insurance, so I informed them that I in fact do have insurance. She said the the rheumatologist still hasn't returned the call and that they were ordering an MRI for my hip.
Well that is all I have to report for now.

Ok I ate some lunch (avo, juanitas, salami, turkey and a bit of kale)
took:
fish oil
elderberry tonic
MSM
daily vitamin
800 ibuprofen
Went to chiro, noticed I was walking striaghter, which they also noticed
He said things seemed to be moving in the right direction
I am hoping they are, adjustments went well.
I am going to accupuncture in 30 min.

on the hip

Returning to the blog after much time away.
Today's blog visits the issue of treating my hip pain. I was having SI problems before it was cool. What I did today for my hip pain:
  1.  4 sets of press-ups and 4 sets of standing back extensions as instructed by Providence Phys. Therapist
  2. went through some exercises, stretches, and foam rolling as suggested by irehab:
    1. active hamstring stretch
    2. hip rotator stretch
    3. upper trunk rotation (rotating trunk to right was intense)
    4. prone low back stretch (child's pose)
    5. prone on elbows
    6. pressups
    7. cat camel
    8. kneeling psoas stretch (when left knee was done glute recruitment was almost nonexistent)
    9. TA activation (lying on back and sucking in belly button, I tried to squeeze a ball between my knees to little avail)
    10. Prone plank (worked up  a sweat yay!!)
    11. tried supine hip extension, but this was painful so I cut them short
    12. foam rolled
      1. quads,
      2. hips
      3. glutes
      4. midback
  3. I iced then went to Dr. A for a treatment (he said I adjusted easily, there was a little pain in adjusting the left SI)
  4. Iced again
  5. I have taken 2 doses of 800 mg of ibuprofen and plan on taking one more at dinner
  6. I have made a massage appointment for wednesday at 230 at full spectrum

Previously I have gotten 2 rounds of accupuncture last week,
I saw Dr. A 4 times, took a couple of weeks off and then saw him once before today ( on thursday last week)
I have had 1 massage
I went to providence rehab and was advised to do the press ups and standing back extension stretches
This only includes treatment for the the re-occurrence of this injury
The previous injury response was addressed in this google doc
